  • Scanpan Titanium Cookware

Denmark-based cookware company Scanpan has crafted its business around the tagline for the love of good food. Apparently it has worked, considering Scanpan is one of the most recognized names in innovative and environmentally friendly kitchenware.

Well known for its revolutionary non-stick pans (more on those below), Scanpan's product line also includes cutlery, pressure cookers, utensils and kitchen accessories.

The forward-thinking, Scandinavian company was started more than 50 years ago and is now a leader in pressure cast aluminum cookware. Scanpan combines cutting-edge technology (from NASA) and sleek design to craft kitchen products suitable even for the space-age generation to come.

    HEY, LET'S USE CERAMIC TITANIUM!

Sure, we can use adjectives like forward-thinking, revolutionary and cutting-edge all day to describe Scanpan's products, but seriously, just how revolutionary are they?

Once a fry pan (or sauce pan) is molded using aluminum casting (aluminum is a great conductor of heat) at 200 tons of pressure, it is then fired with a ceramic-titanium compound at 30,000 degrees using the same technology invented by NASA, thus making the surface of the pan 10 times harder than steel. In a nutshell, the extensive heat liquefies the ceramic titanium, which is then fired onto the surface of the pan mold -- making it more durable than any other pan on the market.

The benefits of using ceramic-titanium aluminum casting are numerous.

    No warping
    Perfect heat distribution
    No hot spots
    Easy to clean
Safe to use with metal utensils
    Safe for dishwasher use
Minimal energy consumption because product requires low to medium heat

Scanpan's New Tek line, which has been available in the U.S. since 2002, combines the ceramic-titanium patented process with a newer non-stick compound that closes the surfaces, allowing for perfect food release all the time (as in forever). This means no oils are necessary to cook - ever. This also means the heat is evenly distributed so you aren't forced to cook your food in the middle of the pan. And when we say it's non-stick, it's truly non-stick. Scanpan comes with a lifetime guarantee that the coating will never require oil or butter.

Scanpan's non-stick products are hands-down the most innovative on the market and have won regular awards for best nonstick cookware.

    TIME TO GO GREEN TEK

Spurred by the hype around the potential dangers of perfluorooctanic acid (PFOA), the detergent-like material used during manufacturing of most non-stick cookware, Scanpan researched and invented a PFOA-free firing process. Scanpan's new Green Tek surface does not use a PFOA emulsifier. Scanpan's patented non-stick surface remains flawless, even without the PFOA. And it's environmentally friendly, something the company takes very seriously.

Scanpan's environmental awareness spreads beyond its Green Tek product line. The company consistently keeps its emissions below government-mandated levels, recycled materials are used when possible and all byproducts are recycled.

    ERGO, THE HANDLE!

The makers of Scanpan products truly believe that good cookware must be functional. It has to feel good in the hand.

Scanpan's Ergonomic New Tek cookware incorporates a patented rotilt handle design. Based on scientific concepts, the handle allows for easy maneuvering of pots and pans during the cooking process.
